U.S. Jazz Trio to Tour Yugoslavia

To mark the centennial of the birth of one of the giants of jazz, Louis Armstrong, the American Embassy in Belgrade is sponsoring an American Jazz trio on a month-long tour of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during August.  The Wag Trio, as part of the State Department's Jazz Ambassadors program, will perform concerts and hold workshops and master classes in Belgrade, Pancevo, Valjevo, Novi Sad, Kanjiza, Subotica, Nis, and Kragujevac.  For the final week in August, the Trio will head to Montenegro where they will perform in Podgorica, Cetinje, Niksic, Kotor, and Budva.

The trio, comprised of Walt Szymanski (trumpet), Alex Harding (baritone saxophone and bass clarinet), and Gary Wittner (guitar), will play at the following Belgrade venues:

August 6 - Student Cultural Center,  20:00
August 9 - O! Cinema in Kalemegdan,  22:00
August 10 - Student Cultural Center,  21:00

The Jazz Ambassador's Program, co-organized by the U.S. Department of State and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., sends selected professional American jazz musicians on concert tours to other countries.  Successful applicants must demonstrate the highest artistic and musical ability as well as be conversant with broader aspects of contemporary American society and culture.

Since the program's inception in 1998, Jazz Ambassadors have toured Africa, Latin America, the Midle East, and South Asia.  This year, seven trios are touring a total of sixty countries.  After their concerts and workshops in Yugoslavia, the Wag Trio will continue their tour in Slovenia.

Turneja američkog džez tria po Jugoslaviji

Povodom obeležavanja stogodišnjice rodjenja jednog od velikana džez muzike Luja Armstronga, Američka ambasada u Beogradu sponzoriše američki džez trio na jednomesečnoj turneji po Saveznoj Republici Jugoslaviji avgusta meseca.  Wag trio, pod pokroviteljstvom Stejt Departmenta u okviru programa "Ambasadori džeza" ordržaće koncerte, radionice i časove u Beogradu, Pančevu, Valjevu, Novom Sadu, Kanjiži, Subotici, Nišu i Kragujevcu.  Poslednje nedelje avgusta, trio će otputovati u Crnu Goru gde će nastupati u Podgorici, Cetinju, Nikšiću, Kotoru i Budvi.

Trio sačinjavaju Walt Szymansky (truba i vokal), Alex Harding (bariton saksofon i bas klarinet) i Gary Wittner (gitara), a nastupaće na sledećim mestima:

9. avgust  Bioskop O! na Kalemegdanu, Beograd 22:00 časa
10. avgust  Studentski kulturni centar, Beograd 21:00 čas

"Ambasadori džeza" je program Stejt Departmenta i Centra John F. Kennedy za izvodjačke umetnosti u Vašingtonu, D.C., koji šalje odabrane profesionalne američke džez muzičare da izvode svoj program širom sveta.  Izvodjenje članova ovog programa je uvek na najvišem umetničkom i muzičkom nivou, kao i njihovo poznavanje širih aspekata savremenog američkog društva i kulture. 

Od osnivanja ovog program 1998. godine "Ambasadori Džeza" su obišli Afriku, južnu Ameriku, Srednji istok, i južnu Aziju.  Sedam trio ansambala će ove godine obići 60 zemalja.  Po završetku koncerata u Jugoslaviji, Wag trio će nastaviti svoju turneju po Sloveniji.
