DR. LYNNE GERMAIN MONTGOMERY TO PARTICIPATE IN DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE PROGRAM KICK-OFF IN VETERNIK

On Tuesday, July 8 at 10:30 a.m., Dr. Lynne Germain Montgomery and Mr. Borislav Novakovic, President of Novi Sad City Assembly, will participate in a ceremony at the Disabled Children and Youth Home Veternik (Kninska 157, Veternik) marking the beginning of a project that will renovate the Handicapped Children Center and the Mental Health Center.

Funding for the project, estimated to cost $195,000, is being provided by the U.S. Department of Defense through its European Command in Stuttgart, Germany as part of its Humanitarian Assistance Program. In 2002-2003 hospitals and medical facilities in the Kragujevac area were the primary recipients of assistance which included improvements to medical facilities and donations of medical equipment and supplies.

The renovations will include living quarters for 80 severely handicapped children, new bathrooms, plumbing and sewage repairs, a lighting system, electrical repairs, a new floor and tiles in the kitchen and renovation of the heating system. This project is expected to be completed over the next few months.

DR. LIN DŽERMEJN MONTGOMERI UČESTVUJE U PREDSTAVLJANJU PROGRAMA POMOĆI MINISTARSTVA ODBRANE SAD U VETERNIKU


U utorak, 8. jula u 10:30 časova, Dr. Lin Džermejn Montgomeri i gospodin Borislav Novaković, predsednik Skupštine grada Novog Sada, učestvovaće na svečanosti u Domu za decu i omladinu ometenu u razvoju Veternik (Kninska 157, Veternik) čime se označava početak projekta renoviranja Centra za hendikepiranu decu i Centra za mentalno zdravlje.

Finansiranje projekta, procenjenog na 195,000 dolara, obezbedilo je Ministarstvo odbrane SAD preko Evropske komande u Štutgartu, Nemačka, kao deo Programa humanitarne pomoći. U 2002.-2003. godini bolnice i medicinski objekti u oblasti Kragujevca bili su primarni primaoci pomoći koja je uključila unapređenje medicinskih ustanova i donacije medicinske opreme i sredstava.

Renoviranje će uključiti dnevne boravke 80 teško hendikepirane dece, nova kupatila, popravku vodovodnog i kanalizacionog sistema, električnih instalacija i rasvete, novi pod i pločice u kuhinji, kao i renoviranje sistema za grejanje. U narednim mesecima očekuje se završetak ovog projekta.
