of America OPENING CEREMONY OF “RADIO BU” On Monday, December 15, at 11:15 a.m., Ambassador William D. Montgomery will participate in the opening of Radio BU (Belgrade University) at the Faculty of Political Science in Belgrade. This project is the result of cooperation between the Public Affairs Office of the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade and the Faculty of Political Science. The U.S. Embassy has provided over $50,000 in grants to help establish Radio BU -- including professional broadcast equipment, PCs, printers, licensed software and staff training. The Faculty has provided renovated space and furniture for the radio station. Radio BU will provide news and student related information to the students of the University of Belgrade. The station and its equipment will also be used for the education and training of the Faculty’s students who will become future reporters, editors, radio producers and presenters. The U.S. Government recognizes that an important factor in developing
a democracy is the education and training of media professionals
who maintain high standards. An objective and responsible media that
nurture an active and informed public, capable of making meaningful
contributions to democratic and economic processes, is also vital
to a democracy’s development. The Embassy believes that through this
donation to the University of Belgrade, Radio BU will improve the
quality of media studies and will contribute to building of an objective
and professional media in Serbia and Montenegro. Press interested in covering the ceremony should be at the Faculty
of Political Sciences (Jove Ilica 165) no later than 11:00 a.m. on
Monday, December 15.

Ambasada Sjedinjenih Američkih Država OTVARANJE «RADIJA BU» Ambasada SAD obezbedila je grant u vrednosti većoj od 50,000 dolara za osnivanje Radija BU – uključujući profesionalnu radijsku opremu, kompjutere, štampače, licencirani softver i obuku studenata. Fakultet je obezbedio renovirane prostorije i nameštaj za potrebe radio stanice. Radio BU obezbediće vesti i studentske informacije studentima Univerziteta u Beogradu. Radio stanica i oprema koristiće se takođe za edukaciju i obuku studenata – budućih reportera, urednika, radio producenata i voditelja. Vlada SAD primećuje da su obrazovanje i obuka profesionalaca, sa visokim standardima u oblasti medija, važan faktor u razvoju demokratije. Objektivni i odgovorni mediji koji razvijaju aktivno i informisano javno mnjenje, sposobno da doprinosi demokratskim i ekonomskim procesima, su takođe neophodni za demokratski razvoj. Ambasada veruje da će u okviru ove donacije Univerzitetu u Beogradu, Radio BU doprineti poboljšanju kvaliteta studija u oblasti medija i izgradnji objektivnih i profesionalnih medija u Srbiji i Crnoj Gori.
