U.S. and Serbia and Montenegro Conducting Seminar on Intelligence Oversight

The U.S. Embassy in Belgrade and US European Command, in cooperation with Serbia and Montenegro's Ministry of Defense, are conducting a two-day seminar on Intelligence Oversight, September 28-29 in Belgrade. The purpose of the seminar is to familiarize Serbian and Montenegrin officials with the methods used by the Government of the United States in the area of civilian oversight of its intelligence agencies, both within and external to the military services, and methods of managing intelligence. Participants from Serbia and Montenegro will be from the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff and appropriate Parliamentary committees.

Representatives from the Office of the Secretary of Defense in Washington D.C., will participate in the event. The seminar will consist of lectures as well as practical scenarios.

Intelligence oversight is of great interest for both Serbia and Montenegro and the United States. As Serbia and Montenegro continues its defense reform efforts, adequate transparency in the area of intelligence will contribute to increased confidence in defense and security institutions. Over the long term, a successful intelligence program in Serbia and Montenegro will be an asset to regional security.

SAD I SCG ORGANIZUJU SEMINAR O NADZORU NAD OBAVEŠTAJNIM SLUŽBAMA

Ambasada SAD u Beogradu i Evropska komanda snaga SAD u saradnji sa Ministarstvom odbrane SCG organizuju dvodnevni seminar o nadzoru nad obaveštajnim službama 28. i 29. septembra u Beogradu. Cilj seminara je upoznavanje službenika iz SCG sa metodama vlade SAD za nadzor različitih obaveštajnih agencija, unutar i van vojnih struktura, i metodama upravljanja obaveštajnim službama. Učesnici seminara biće pripadnici Ministarstva odbrane SCG, Generalštaba i odgovarajućih skupštinskih odbora.

Predstavnici Kancelarije Ministra odbrane SAD iz Vašingtona učestvovaće na seminaru. Seminar će se sastojati od serije predavanja i praktičnih vežbi.

Nadzor nad obaveštajnim službama ima veliki značaj za Srbiju i Crnu Goru i Sjedinjene Države. U toku reformi odbrambenog sistema SCG adekvatna transparentnost u oblasti obaveštajnih službi doprineće većem poverenju u odbrambene i bezbednosne institucije. U dugoročnom smislu, uspešan obaveštajni program u Srbiji i Crnoj Gori doprineće regionalnoj bezbednosti.
