Ambassador Michael C. Polt Opens Neighborhood Park in Novi Beograd

On Monday, November 7, U.S. Ambassador Michael C. Polt, representatives of the Novi Beograd Municipality, and members of the American community in Belgrade will join Serbian residents to officially open a renovated neighborhood park located near the Polytechnic Academy in Novi Beograd.

The newly refurbished park is a result of cooperation between Serbian and American citizens to improve the quality of life in local communities. This project also emphasizes the importance of shared and safe community space in Novi Beograd’s rapidly developing urban landscape. The Ambassador and other American representatives first visited the park earlier this summer. At that time, local residents and their neighbors, including members of the American community in Belgrade, committed themselves to the park’s redevelopment and upkeep in the future.

The park opening will include comments from Ambassador Polt and Novi Beograd Municipality’s Deputy Mayor Goran Dzafic, as well as local community representative Ilija Maljokovic. Guests will include members from Novi Beograd’s municipal council, local students and their teachers, and members of the local American community. There will be games for the students, including a high-school basketball tournament with prizes to the top competitors. Attendees will also have an opportunity to enjoy traditional food from the New England region of the United States which is currently being featured at a food festival at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Novi Beograd. Hyatt General Manager Edward Andrews will join Ambassador Polt in welcoming the local community.

The American people continue to invest in projects designed to strengthen the bonds between American and Serbian citizens through USAID’s Community Revitalization through Democratic Action - Economy (CRDA-E) program. The Novi Beograd park renovation will continue to stand as a symbol of these bonds between the Serbian residents of Novi Beograd and their American neighbors.

Ambasador Majkl K. Polt otvara obnovljeni park u Novom Beogradu

Otvaranju će prisustvovati članovi opštinskog veća Novog Beograda, učenici i profesori obližnjih škola i predstavnici američke zajednice.
