U.S. Embassy Co-Hosts Conference on Judicial Independence and Accountability in the New Constitution

U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Overseas Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT), a program managed by the U.S. Embassy’s Resident Legal Advisor's Office, together with USAID/ ABA CEELI, the Judges Association of Serbia, and the Prosecutors Association of Serbia, will hold a two-day conference on "Independence and Accountability of Judges and Prosecutors in the New Constitution." The conference, which will be held for Serbian officials, judges and prosecutors, will take place at the "Hyatt Regency" Hotel Belgrade, from December 15-16.

The goals of the conference are to stress the importance of the independence of judges and prosecutors, discuss different constitutional proposals pertaining to the status of judges and prosecution, raise the professionalism and accountability of judges and prosecutors in the performance of their official functions, and encourage a judiciary free of corruption.

Ambassador Michael C. Polt will deliver the key note remarks at the conference.

Ambasada SAD ko-organizuje konferenciju o nezavisnosti i odgovornosti pravosuđa u novom Ustavu

Ministarstvo pravde SAD - Kancelarija za međunarodnu pomoć, usavršavanje i profesionalnu obuku u krivičnom gonjenju (OPDAT), u okviru programa koji vodi Kancelarija stalnog pravnog savetnika pri Ambasadi SAD u Beogradu, u saradnji sa USAID/ ABA CEELI, Društvom sudija Srbije i Udruženjem tužilaca Srbije, održaće dvodnevnu konferenciju "Nezavisnost i odgovornost sudija i tužilaca u novom Ustavu". Konferencija koja će okupiti zvaničnike Republike Srbije, sudije i tužioce, održaće se u hotelu Hajat u Beogradu od 15. do 16. decembra 2005.

Ciljevi konferencije su da se istakne značaj nezavisnosti sudija i tužilaca, razmotre različiti predlozi ustavnih odrebi koje se odnose na položaj sudija i tužilaca i podstaknu profesionalizam i odgovornost sudija i tužilaca u vršenju dužnosti, kao i nekorumpirano pravosuđe.
