Statement on "Serbia and Montenegro in 2005" by U.S. Ambassador Michael C. Polt BLIC, January 3, 2005

The Serbian and Montenegrin people can expect the United States' continued strong support and friendship. They can expect us to continue to be a committed partner in economic development, growth and investment - a commitment that has already made the U.S. the largest single investor in the country. They can also expect our continued support of their efforts to return to their natural place in the European family of nations by separating themselves from individuals who would use the name of Serbia to cover their own misdeeds.

The Serbian and Montenegrin government and political leadership can expect our continued constructive engagement to bring them into the Euro-Atlantic community. They can also expect that with that engagement comes our insistence that they fulfill their international responsibilities to lead their people back into Europe.

I know that 2005 will bring challenges as well as opportunities. The good people of Serbia and Montenegro and their leadership will have choices to make that will have a profound affect on their future.

Građani Srbije i Crne Gore u 2005. godini mogu da očekuju nastavak jake podrške i prijateljstva SAD. Bićemo vam posvećen partner u ekonomskom razvoju, napretku i investicijama - jer je tu obavezu na sebe SAD preuzela kao najveći pojedinačni investitor u vašoj zemlji. Možete takođe da očekujete nastavak podrške naporima da se vratite na mesto koje vam pripada u evropskoj porodici nacija, odvajajući se od pojedinca koji koriste ime Srbije kako bi prikrili sopstvena zlodela.

Vlada Srbije i Crne Gore i političko rukovodstvo zemlje mogu da očekuju nastavak našeg konstruktivnog angažovanja da vas uvedemo u Evroatlantsku zajednicu. Takođe, možete da očekujete da naše angažovanje prati insistiranje da ispunite svoje međunarodne obaveze koje vode građane nazad u Evropu.

Znam da 2005. donosi brojne izazove, ali isto tako i prilike. Narod Srbije i Crne Gore i oni koji ga vode moraju da donesu odluke koje će temeljno uticati na vašu budućnost.
