U.S. Government Notes Announcement of Vladimir Lazarevic's Surrender
to the Hague
The Government of the United States notes the announcement by the Government
of Serbia that war crimes indictee Vladimir Lazarevic has indicated that he
will surrender to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia
in The Hague. The United States believes that General Lazarevic's decision
is the right one, and urge him to quickly make it effective.
General Lazarevic's indictment, issued on October 2, 2003, accuses him of "crimes
against humanity and violations of the laws or customs of war" which occurred
between January and June 1999 in Kosovo.
The Government of the United States calls on the Government of Serbia to fulfill
all of its international obligations to The Hague tribunal without any further
delay.
