U.S. Sponsors Conference on Victim/Witness Support in Serbia

A two-day intensive Conference on Victim/Witness Assistance in Criminal Proceedings will be organized and funded by the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of Overseas Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT), program managed by the U.S. Embassy’s Resident Legal Advisor's Office. The Conference, which will be attended by Serbian Judges, Prosecutors, Police, and NGO's, will take place at the Hyatt Hotel in Belgrade on March 14-15, 2005.

The two-day Conference features distinguished experts from the U.S. Department of Justice U.S. Attorney's Office (Eastern District of Oklahoma), the New York District Attorney's Office, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), and the Humanitarian Law Center. The presenters include experienced victim/witness specialists that have been involved in the U.S. domestic terrorism cases that resulted in the bombing of the Oklahoma City Federal Building and New York World Trade Center. The Conference will focus on the importance of victim/witness assistance as a tool in rendering justice in criminal cases, including war crimes and trafficking in persons, and the establishment of such a service in Serbia.

SAD sponzorišu Konferenciju o podršci žrtvama/svedocima u Srbiji

Intenzivnu dvodnevnu konferenciju "Podrška žrtvama/svedocima u krivičnom postupku" organizuje i finansira Kancelarija za međunarodnu pomoć, usavršavanje i profesionalnu obuku u krivičnom gonjenju (OPDAT) Ministarstva pravde SAD u okviru programa koji vodi Kancelarija stalnog pravnog savetnika pri Ambasadi SAD u Beogradu. Konferencija koja će okupiti sudije, tužioce, policiju i nevladine organizacije iz Srbije, održaće se u hotelu Hajat u Beogradu od 14. do 15. marta 2005. godine.

Na dvodnevnoj konferenciji učestvovaće eminentni eksperti američkog Ministarstva pravde - Federalnog tužilaštva (okrug Istočne Oklahome), Okružnog tužilaštva Nju Jorka, Međunarodnog Krivičnog Tribunala za bivšu Jugoslaviju (MKTJ) i Fonda za Humanitarno pravo. Predavači su iskusni stručnjaci za žrtve/svedoke koji su radili na slučajevima terorizma u SAD uključujući bombaški napad na Federalnu zgradu u Oklahoma Sitiju i napad na Svetski trgovinski centar u Nju Jorku. Konferencija će se fokusirati na značaj podrške žrtvama/svedocima za ostvarivanje pravde u krivičnom postupku, uključujući krivična dela ratnih zločina i trgovine ljudima, i razmatraće mogućnosti uspostavljanja adekvatne službe u Srbiji.
