U. S. Embassy Salutes the 6th Anniversary of Serbia's Democratic Revolution

October 5, 2000 was the day democratic forces in Serbia triumphed. After years of struggle, the people of Serbia succeeded in ousting Slobodan Milosevic from power and chose a path that will lead Serbia into the Euro-Atlantic institutions, where the country belongs.

Since October of 2000, many Serbs and Americans -- private citizens, public officials, businesspeople, civic activists, and others -- have been working together to defeat forces of ethnic hatred and xenophobia. For over six years we have worked together to build democracy, justice and prosperity for the benefit of the Serbian people.

We support and encourage those forces in Serbia representing democratic values to continue and intensify their efforts to transform Serbia into a fully free, democratic, and market-oriented society, guided by the rule of law.

We are confident that the same democratic spirit reawakened in Serbia in October of 2000 is alive in Serbia today. We are determined to remain engaged with reformers to realize the democratic promise of October 2000.

Ambasada SAD pozdravlja šestogodišnjicu demokratske revolucije u Srbiji

Peti oktobar 2000. godine je dan kada su u Srbiji pobedile demokratske snage. Narod Srbije je nakon višegodišnjih napora uspeo da ukloni sa vlasti Slobodana Miloševića i nedvosmisleno izabere put koji Srbiju vodi ka evroatlanskim integracijama, gde joj je i mesto.

Od oktobra 2000. godine mnogo Srba i Amerikanaca -- pojedinaca, državnih službenika, poslovnih ljudi, aktivista građanskog društva i ostalih -- radilo je zajedno kako bi se porazile snage etničke mržnje i ksenofobije. Više od šest godina zajednički radimo na izgradnji demokratije, pravde i prosperiteta za srpski narod.

Podržavamo one snage u Srbiji koje predstavljaju demokratske ideale i vrednosti i ohrabrujemo ih da nastave i pojačaju napore u cilju preobražaja Srbije u potpuno slobodno, demokratsko i tržišno orjentisano društvo vođeno vladavinom prava.

Ubeđeni smo da je isti onaj demokratski duh, probuđen oktobra 2000. godine, i danas prisutan u Srbiji. Odlučni smo da nastavimo da sarađujemo sa reformskim snagama u cilju ispunjenja demokratskih principa iz oktobra 2000. godine.
