Embassy Commemorates Fifth Anniversary of September 11 Attacks

The fifth anniversary of the terror attacks on New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, was marked by U.S. Ambassador Michael C. Polt, the staff of the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, and invited guests including the diplomatic representatives of the countries who suffered losses on that terrible day in 2001.

The ceremony was a solemn and private event marked by a moment of silence to honor the memory of the thousands killed five years ago. Ambassador Polt gave brief comments, and representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Jewish and Muslim communities of Belgrade offered brief prayers.

Ambassador Polt also planted a juniper tree, which will be marked with the following inscription: This juniper tree was planted by Ambassador Michael C. Polt, together with Serbian leaders and representatives of many other nations, on September 11, 2006 in memory of the lives lost in the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001. This straight and tall tree stands as an enduring symbol of the victory of freedom over terror.

Ambasada obeležava petu godišnjicu od terorističkih napada koji su se dogodili 11.septembra

Petu godišnjicu terorističkog napada na Njujork, Vašington i Pensilvaniju su obeležili Američki Ambasador Majkl K. Polt zajedno sa službenicima Ambasade SAD u Beogradu i ostalim gostima uključujući diplomatske predstavnike zemalja koje su pretrpele gubitak tog dana 2001. godine.

Ceremonija je bila svečan i privatan događaj, obeležen minutom ćutanja u znak sećanja na hiljade ljudi koji su nastradali pre pet godina. Ambasador Polt se kratko obratio prisutnima, a predstavnici Srpske Pravoslavne Crkve i Jevrejske i Muslimanske zajednice su se očitali molitve.

Ambasador Polt je takođe zasadio zimzeleno drvo na kome će stajati sledeća posveta: Ovo zimzeleno drvo je Ambasador Majkl K. Polt zasadio zajedno sa srpskim liderima i predstavnicima drugih nacija, 11. septembra 2006. godine u znak sećanja na živote izgubljene u terorističkom napadu na Sjedinjene Američke Države 11. septembra 2001. godine. Ovo pravo i visoko drvo predstavlja trajan simbol pobede slobode nad terorizmom.
