Ambassador Munter to meet with Serbian and American Exchange Students
On Friday, September 28, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., Ambassador Cameron Munter will meet with high school students from Serbia and the United States who are participating in the Serbia Youth Leadership Program.
The Serbia Youth Leadership Program (SYLP) is a short-term exchange program for Serbian and American high school students active in youth empowerment and community development activities. SYLP is financed by the U.S. Department of State and implemented by World Learning and Civic Initiatives.
Under the SYLP program, approximately 60 students and educators from Serbia will travel to the United States for a one month exchange, where they travel throughout the U.S., visit American schools, stay with American host families and participate in volunteer projects. In order to make this a true two-way exchange, groups of American students also visit Serbia. The purpose of the program is to strengthen ties between youth and educators in the two countries, as well as to exchange experience in promoting community development activities.
The first group of American students visiting Serbia under the SYLP program takes place September 20-29th. Five American students and one teacher from Seattle and Cleveland are being hosted by the 20 Serbian high school students who spent one month in the United States in April, 2007. During their 9-day stay in Serbia, students were placed in host families in Bajina Basta, Prijepolje, Senta, Kikinda and Palilula, enabling them to spend time with their Serbian friends and learn more about Serbian culture, tradition and language, as well as participate in community development activities.
On September 28th the American students will participate in a pre-departure orientation for the third and final group of Serbian students traveling to the United States this year at the American Corner in Dom Omladine. Ambassador Cameron Munter will attend this meeting. After a short discussion session between Ambassador Munter and the students, the media will be given some time for questions.
Journalists interesting in covering this event should be at the American Corner, Dom Omladine, Makedonska 22, no later than 10:15 a.m.

Program mladih lidera u Srbiji je program razmene u kome učestvuju srpski i američki srednjoškolci uključeni u razne aktivnosti mladih i razvoja zajednice. Program finansira američki Stejt Dipartment, a sprovode ga World learning i Građanske inicijative.
