U.S. Embassy Supports International Conference on Information Literacy and Life-Long Learning

The U.S. Embassy is supporting the International Conference on Information Literacy and Life-Long Learning which will take place in Belgrade at the Faculty of Philology, from October 5 thru 8.

Special guests at the conference, which will be attended by more than one hundred participants, are Prof. Gwendolyn Alexander, Dean, and Dr. Herbert Achleitner, Professor at Emporia State University’s School of Library and Information Management. Fifty papers will be presented on topics such as Critical Thinking, Evaluation of Information, Influence of Technology on Information Literacy, Economic, Legal, Ethical, and Social Aspects of Information Literacy, etc.

Information literacy is a critical skill in the information age and is crucial to effective citizenship and the practice of democracy. To that end, this program will increase awareness of the need for information literacy as a survival tool for democratic institutions and as a key component of lifelong learning.

The conference is also expected to lead to the signing of an agreement of cooperation between Belgrade University and Emporia State University, which would open the door to development of curricula, exchange of professors and students, and other joint projects.

Journalists interested in covering the conference should come to the Faculty of Philology, Knez Mihailova 40, 5th Floor on October 5 at 9 AM. For more information, interested parties can also contact Prof. Aleksandra Vranes, Faculty of Philology, at 063/80-50-679.
