Web-Chat about U.S. Diversity Visa Lottery and Consular Issues

On Wednesday, October 24, 2007 Nikolas Trendowski, the Visa Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, answered questions online during a web-chat about this year's Diversity Visa Lottery (often referred to as the "green card lottery") and other consular issues.

The Diversity Immigrant Visa Program, mandated by the Congress of the United States of America, currently makes available 50,000 permanent resident visas annually for potential immigrants from across the globe. Those selected are chosen in a random drawing from among all entries. Last year five hundred and five people from Serbia & Montenegro were selected. Initial registration is free of charge and can only be done through http://www.dvlottery.state.gov.

U sredu, 24. oktobra 2007. Nikolas Trendowski, šef viza sekcije u Američkoj ambasadi u Beogradu, odgovarao je na pitanja o ovogodišnjem DV-2009 (Diversity Visa) programu, koji se popularno naziva lutrija za zelenu kartu i drugim konzularnim temama.

Svake godine, 55.000 imigrantskih viza je na raspolagnju preko Diversity Lottery (DV) programa, koji je odobio Kongres SAD, potencijalnim useljenicima iz čitavog sveta. Odabir se vrsi kompjuterski metodom slučajnog izbora. Prošle godine ovom metodom je odabrano pet stotina i pet osoba iz Srbije i Crne Gore. Za inicijalno podnošenje molbe za ovaj program ne plaća se nikakva taksa, i moze se obaviti samo preko internet stranice www.dvlottery.state.gov .
