This year marks the eighth annual International Education Week (IEW). In this celebration of international education and exchange, the U.S. Department of State joins with the U.S. Department of Education to highlight the critical role of education in our efforts to secure a bright future based on international partnership and understanding. The center piece of this effort is promoting and facilitating cultural and educational exchange programs through which Serbian citizens travel and study in the US and vice versa. Last year over 200,000 US students studied abroad. More than 13,500 citizens of Serbia have studied or participated in exchange programs in the U.S. in the last five years alone, with the number increasing substantially every year. It is a priority of the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade to actively encourage, facilitate, and increase these opportunities for educational and cultural exchange.
