U.S. Embassy Delivers School Supplies to Pranjani Students

On Sunday, January 27, a detachment of U.S. Marine Security Guards assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade presented school supplies to the 352 students of the Ivo Andric Elementary School in Pranjani, Serbia. The supplies, which were donated and collected by the staff of the U.S. Embassy, were presented in commemoration of the Sveti Sava Slava celebration.

This event was another step in the developing relationship between the community surrounding Pranjani and the U.S. Embassy. In November 2007, Ambassador Cameron Munter visited Pranjani to honor Serb families who saved the lives of hundreds of U.S. airmen shot down during World War II. These U.S. airmen bear testimony to the significant sacrifices of local Serb villagers who fed, cared for and protected them, in some cases up to six months before their rescue during Operation Halyard. The Halyard Mission is considered one of the greatest rescues of American airmen from behind enemy lines in the history of warfare.

Donacija predstavlja još jedan korak u razvoju uspešne saradnje lokalne zajednice Pranjani i američke ambasade.
