U.S. Embassy Donates Over 15,000 Books to 60 Cities Across Serbia

The U.S. Embassy in Belgrade received a donation of over 15,000 English-language books from the U.S. Army's Bad Aibling Air Station Library in Germany.

Information Resource Center assistant Dusica Rajcevic worked with over 62 institutions, 55 city libraries, and many school libraries across Serbia to determine which books would be best suited to each organization.

The 15,000 books were categorized, labeled “With the Friendship of the People of the United States of America” and packaged ready for delivery.

The books were then delivered to 60 cities across Serbia. Sometimes Ambassador Polt personally delivered the books, often Ms. Rajcevic traveled to several cities a day to make sure that all these libraries could get their books.

The institutions were thrilled with their new books, and said they hoped to become good partners of the Embassy by hosting American speakers, or joining their nearby American Corner.
